Something a bit abstract & fun to kick off the New Year.

Hellboy Challenge (wip)

September 6, 2012

I started working on something fun for an IFX challenge that prompted folks to create a female equivalent of hellboy (a girly friend).  I opted to explore an alternative to Hellboy’s big hand.  Here’s a rough concept in progress.  I’ll be giving her a more dynamic pose, but I’m pretty happy with the robots.

IFX Monthly Challenge Winner

August 12, 2012

My creepy ass piece won the Imagine FX Monthly Challenge for July.  I’m still fixing some things that really bug me, but regardless, I really learned a ton working on this.  The given theme was “With Science” and the following is a bit of creepy text I included with it.

By day he shuffles about dusty libraries, sifting his rickety fingers through decaying books. His peers mock him, even pity him, but In the pale night, he satisfies his dark curiosities with great wisdom and science.  His subjects, all volunteers; victims of war, disease, and general misfortune. Grateful and loyal, they do his bidding. They are his disciples, his lovers, his strange, fantastic warriors.

Something fun I did for another IFX challenge.  Good practice for Adventure Goat.

Farseer Wip

February 20, 2012

A forum challenge themed “Farseer” and fully open to interpretation.  Thought I’d have a go at something soft and blendy, just to expand my brain.

Late Night Sketching

February 8, 2012

Here is a  time lapse session of me sketching delightful nonsense with straight pen & ink.  It’s important to have fun in your sketchbooks!

Music by me.

A fun piece I did for a weekly IFX challenge themed “ManMan…He’s all man”
I started with a big list of all the “man stuff” he was going to have (guns, crossbow, chainsaw, axe, beer etc…) but then I realized that this here is all a ManMan needs.

Wait I drew a guy? This is a landmark!

Manman Challenge

Something fun for October…

Nomad Family

February 7, 2011

October 30, 2010

I like to post my weird movies in October.

First up is a  delightful little piece called Sasquatch Survivor 2. I directed and acted (three characters) in this unique short film many moons ago when I lived in the Sierra Foothills of northern California. I wasn’t a film student or anything, I just started making movies with my 400 dollar video camera and minimal understanding of the filmmaking process. The digital FX were done using Hash Animation Master and photoshop.

There’s mystery, action, special FX, and a giant Sasquatch of course! So pop some corn, crack a beer and enjoy the arguably epic saga? Seriously though… I look back at this and I actually find it mighty impressive. Some of it works so well, you’d think I knew what I was doing.

Next up is a documentary I made back in 2005.  It started out as a writing assignment and morphed into… well, what it is.

May 11, 2010

Some quick sketches.

For the cabin I referenced an artist named J.D. Harding.  It’s very much the type of cabin Adventure Goat lives in.

Self Published Art Book

March 31, 2010

Ha! Ha! Sorry, this puppy is no longer available… for now….. for top secret reasons.  Heh, yeah.  so….. that’s that.

March 25, 2010

Just a preview of something fun I am working on.

Far East

February 11, 2010

My final for another weekly Challenge. It’s a strange piece but I know it’s successful on a certain level because I laugh when I look at the speeding characters. Don’t ask what the giant vehicle in the back is. I’ll work on a name for it like: Maximum fun fun floaty joy joy palace.

I might play with an alternate color scheme for the larger vehicles and fix some of those tangents.

Hiding In Plain Sight

February 4, 2010

Here be a little piece I did for a challenge themed “Hiding In Plain Sight”. It needs some help but it’s still pretty cute.

Hibernating MulchMuck; Though rare, these strange beasts are rumored to reside in the Southern regions of Limestone.

Spectrum 17

February 3, 2010

One of my goals for the past year or so has been to submit work to the Spectrum art book. Lo and behold!… I finally did. I sent off two of my favorite pieces last month. Selected entrants for Spectrum 17 are to be notified by the end of February or sometime thereabouts.

It’s pretty exciting really. Regardless of the results, it feels good to follow up on a goal and put my art out there. You have to try right!

<<< No, not my art. That’s the cover to book 16.

Hell’s Belles

January 26, 2010

Retail work is a bit depressing but art is keeping my spirits aloft. Here’s a screen-shot of my progress for this weeks MyFX challenge. The given theme for this one is Hell’s Belles. I’m having fun so far.

First Work Of 2010

January 4, 2010

Here’s my entry for this weeks MyFX forum challenge. The set theme for this one is “It Came From Below”.

My entry didn’t quite jell with the challenge, but I really dig it. I started with a squid-like creature bursting from the ground, but ended up here. I had a lot of fun with the bits of crap breaking apart everywhere and the strange colors scheme. Heh Heh… personal joke really.

Cyborg Warfare Challenge

December 30, 2009

This week I joined in on another ImagineFX weekly challenge. For this one I’m taking the new ArtRage Studio for a spin and loving it.

Her’s my work in progress. I’m shooting for something subtle which is certainly a challenge with a title theme like Cyborg Warfare.

More Goat

December 21, 2009

Development on Adventuregoat continues. I’m pretty darn happy with his design so far- which is a huge deal since I’ve been struggling to resolve his look for quite some time. I also resolved a major story element that helped a few things click into place all nice and stuff.

There’s plenty more to do, so I’d better get back at it!

Adventure Goat

July 3, 2009

Adventure GoatI painted this mock comic cover for this weeks ImagineFX challenge themed “scarlet“. I almost sat this one out but I’m glad I followed through. Now I have an inspirational piece to motivate me. The Text & fonts are just temporary. I’ll certainly put more time into the title design further down the road.

I’ve also been doing lots of prep work for the actual comic. Character sketches and such. Stay tuned, Adventuregoat is on his way!
